Does anybody know what the stock tint on the back windows is on a 2003 Sport? I have somewhat of a dilemma. I bought a Sport from out of state with after market tint on the front windows. In order to pass state inspection I have to have the tint tested by the State Police at a MVA office. There are specific times they go around to each one to do testing. The problem is I didn't know this before I took it to get inspected so it's not passing because of the tint. And I have to take off work just to get it tested another day. If it's not legal and I can figure it out I won't even worry about wasting my time having it tested and just remove it so it can pass inspection.

I didn't know there was a limit some states put up on rear windows. Front windows sure but not the rears.

It's front windows I'm talking about. I wanted to know what the rears were so I can try and gauge if the fronts are legal and if I need to even waste my time to go have them tested.

How does the tint rating work? Does the percent refer to the amount of light it blocks? So the higher the number the more it blocks?

I do believe it's the amount of light it blocks, most states don't allow you to have any sort of tinting on the fronts so you might as well remove it. I've been mulling over doing mine, but I'm not too sure how I'll be pestered by cops.

In MN its 50% on the front windows. No tint on the windshield and like down to 5% on the rear ones.

I believe that tint refers to the amount of light is let through. So therefore the lower the number is the darker the tint will be. Most states the limit is 35% on the front windows. 35% is fairly dark and I know that the factory tint on my expo is nowhere near that dark. It is around 40-45%

the factory tint is called privacy glass and the tint is incorporated into the glass (like sunglasses) and is equivalent to 20% tint. I lived in several different states and most are or were 35% on front windows and windshield (small strip on top) with little or no restriction on the back windows. I live in oklahoma and this state has about the same restriction but are rarely enforced. hell, the highway patrol(state police) have darker than legal on there unmarked cars. I have 5% all the way around and that's on top of the privacy glass too, I can see out of it just fine but no one can see in!!!
