You have 235/70/15s which come out to about 28". 265/70/15s would be pretty close to 30".

Actually, they are probably 235/75-15's. That's been the stock 15" tire on all explorers as far as I know. There are also packages with 16" rims on them, but I don't know what size tire they have. Take a look at the sidewall of the tire. It's listed there.

Some came with 225/70/15s :(

But anyway it's morning now, I think he can go look outside ;)

Hmmm, oh well, learn something new every day. Never seen them on a stock X. Both the Explorers I have owned ('92 Sport & '01 XLS), as well as my dad's ('93 XLT) and my in-laws ('91 XLT) had the 235/75-15's on them.

Daylight does wonders for answering lots of questions, doesn't it :D

i have a 2000 xlt with 235/75/15 which is 28.87795275590551 inches high

255/75/15 is 30.059055118110237 inches high.

are u planning on gettin larger tires? and if u do, how are u going about correcting ur speedo?

My X has the stock tire size of P225/70R15. That is the tire size you got when you got the standard 3.27 open diff. The 235/75R15 was available with the 3.55 and lower diff. In the '98 model, Ford went to 3.55 standard with the tire size still 225/70R15's with the option for 235/75R16's. I believe in the '99 or '00 model the tire size was 235/75R15's for all the models except the E.B. and Limited which got 255/70R16's.

hmmm my speedo good question... see im gona need new tires soon.. now i could stay with the stock size.. use the new spair i have and only have to buy 3 new tires... or but 4 new 30's. ya i know everyone answer will be go for the 30's but i dont know how $$ will be and how much change will i see with 30's over stock? not much right? also i would have to mess with the speedo i donno..

If your stockers are 28" and you went to 30"... at 60mph you'd only be 4 mph off. I wouldn't worry about changin the speedo until you make a drastic change in tire size. I haven't changed mine and I have 32s. I'm only 8.6 mph off at 60.

The stock tire size for your particular Explorer is written on the drivers door jamb label.

And JDraper,1995ExplorerXLT- All the 92's in my signature(including mine) came with 225/70/15's stock. My tires were already changed to 235's when we got it, but the other two still have the 225's. All three have 3.73 gears too, but maybe that is optioned on them due to Police needs.....
