I just replaced my idler pulley being almost positive that was the cause. OF COURSE NOT! Is the only other option the tensioner, or could it be any of the pulleys? How do you figure out which one is the culprit?

Maybe try squirting the suspected areas with belt dressing. I'm not sure which sound your having. But when I have a squeeking belt I used that to find the culprit.

I had some problems with the stupid chirping noises a while back... Found out it was coming from two places. One was the power steering pump and two was from the clutch on the ac compressor. The ps pump got replaced and right now i have the ac bypassed until i stop being lazy and get the system drained. when i replace the compressor i am converting away from r12. Hope this helps

I had crazy chirping coming from the engine bay. Like you I thought it was the idler pulley. Turns out it was a squeaky alternator! I took off the serpentine belt and turned the alternator and you could hear the chirping. I still haven't replaced it cause I really don't have the money to. Later.

I have the A/C bypassed. If it's the power steering pump or alternator, can I just replace the pulley, or does it have to be the whole system? The chirping only happens on a cold start, and lasts maybe 5 minutes.

Try turning the wheel when it is chirping. If it gets louder or quiter there is a good chance that it is the power steering.

I think you have to be buy the assemblies for the alt and ps... ac the clutch can be bought

That's exactly what mine does. I'm thinking about just taking the alt. apart and greasing the bearings or something to try to fix it without having to replace the whole dang thing. Later.
