So, I've almost got my wife convinced to let me put a small low profile lift in the garage, and it got me thinking.

Is there a way to determine the Explorers Center of Gravity? I understand it shifts with weight changes, but I would think there would have to be a standard. Is there a mark on the frame or is it in a manual somewhere?

The center of gravity is an imaginary point, likely in the passenger compartment above the floor. Why would its location be useful to you?

Possibly you want to position the Explorer on the lift so that the vehicle weight is distributed fairly evenly on the 4 contact points of the lift. This is probably the front and rear jacking points (frame marked with diamond cutouts). There is a diagram of the lift positions which must be on the frame itself, and not on sub-frames or axle differential cases, etc. Ford says also to consult the lift maker's instructions, but only use the frame rails themselves.

I can lift my car using the front or rear jacking positions and it lifts the other end significantly.

Good luck.
