I have a 2002 stock Explorer with the V6. Every once in a while, when the car has been sitting overnight, I will have to take off fast and when it shifts into 2nd it acts like it doesn't fully engage. It feels like it is trying but can't get going. Does anyone have any ideas what causes this? The tranny was rebuilt about 5 years ago and I have not put that many miles on it.

im not sure i completely understand... is it slipping? is there a flare? does it do that in OD too?

Check your transmission fluid level. If you don't know how, get someone to do it for you. Get them to check it for codes too. Watch for a shift solenoid "c" code. It may be possible that your overdrive servo bore is going but usually it is worse when it's warm, not cold.
