I have a 93 explorer and sometimes when I shift into park then try to rev the engine it is loaded up. Like when pressing the brake and gas together. It is very hard to shift out of park, but when I do and then shift back into park everything is fine. Engine revs normally. This doesn't happen everytime though. Any ideas? Thanks

check your shift linkage and motor mounts if i had to guess i would say that the rubber in your motor mounts no longer exists

I am curious how the motor mounts could cause that. I was thinking that the clutches in the tranny to engage 1st and reverse were both engaging.

Sort of

Reverse is made up of low band (1st) and the high clutch (3rd). First is the low band (1st) and the forward clutch. Forward is engaged and stays engaged in all forward gears. The forward clutch may be staying engaged or the parking pawl may not disengage. If the vehicle doesn't move at all when that happens, it could be the pawl. I would seriously look at the linkage outside and inside the transmission.

well when we had a sable a while back the motor mounts crapped out and messed up the shift linkage but now that i think about it it was probrally cause it was fwd
