- 1999 Ford Explorer Sport
About a year ago, we purchased a 1999 Ford Explorer sport. Ever since then, i have wanted to work on it on the weekends or when i have off work, MY dad and i had saved up almost $2700 dollars for it, took a lot of penny pinching, sadly about 5 months ago he died from a heart attack, and my girlfriend and i had to use what him and i saved towards some of the funeral costs. It ripped me apart. I am working at a new job and can afford to buy a little here and a little there. I really want to get it finished before winter arrives.
The things i have planned are:
1: new sway bar, old one is detached and useless. I've priced the kits for under $100
2: new/better shocks front and rear, I'm not sure which to get, my dad knew all of that stuff. But it is still using the factory parts. As long as it'll ride smoother and take a beating if needed.
3. New air intake system, also still factory filter, does not have to be any super high performance system, also new plugs, and plug wires.
4. better tires, also factory, but not in bad shape, but are getting worse and worse.
5. Exhaust system, manifolds/headers, more reliable cat. converter, and nice sounding muffler/pipes.
Anything affordable that will increase overall performance but not put me in poor house. I live in he northern Delaware area, I'm not asking for money.
If anyone has some stuff laying around i can use that will help, or anyone in the area who would like to help me out when possible, that would be great. The car isn't just for me, it's my girlfriend and our two year old son. Our only vehicle. If anyone has any suggestions, or can offer a reputable website with cheap used parts, or if you live in the area and would like to help me out ( our schedules permitting that would be amazing) I am not rich, but will pay what i can and obviously bu parts that are needed. You would be doing me and my family a HUGE favor. I miss my dad and him and i saved up for so long and then he passed on. If you'd like to barter, i am very good at fixing computers from any problem. I will even help you out if you need an extra man on the job, or just need help in some way. I just want my vehicle to be safe for my son before winter.
Last year we skid off the road and almost flipped. I guess because of not so good tires and a broken sway bar, i'm not sure. We can work something out. I would not mind this being a community project, If anyone can give me a rough estimate on what those things may cost, please reply.
I have roughly estimated around $3000 for the above repairs/replacements.
I am mechanically inclined, i have some tools, some beer and I always return the favor. There are also a few junk yards in the area too. Any suggestions/ideas/thoughts please feel free to send me a message on here, email canufeelthis@hotmail.com, or send private message, or we can swap cell numbers. I am not begging or looking for a handout, just a fellow explorer owner who wants to finish the job, my dad and i had in the works. I apologize for my grammar skills, Thanks for reading and ANY help would be appreciated, and i NEVER forgot people who help me out. I just feel so inspired when i read through the posts here and look at some of the awesome explorers and the hard work you guys put into them. Look forward to hearing from you guys/gals.
Like i said, I NEVER forget those who help me. If you need an extra man for moving/changing your oil, mowing your lawn, trimming you bushes, ANYTHING ( within reason ahaha) and I will be there bright and early and won't stop until the debt is paid off 110%.
