This has probably been talked about before, but how do you unstick your a4wd? It acts like it is not fully in or out. Is there a good procedure that someone has for resetting?

You can remove the 4X4 shift motor off the back of the transfer case and turn the shaft sticking out of the back of the case with your fingers (usually), or with pliers; the surface is marked with arrows indicating "Hi" and "Low".
If the shaft is STUCK, and will not turn easily (the transmission should be in Park or Neutral), the mechanism within the transfer case is jammed/broken. If it turns fairly easily, then,

figure out why the shift motor is not doing that job. imp

Thanks for the reply. I just finally got the chance to check on the message board. I wouldn't think it would be in the transfer case itself because it will still go into 4WD Hi and Low it just doesn't seem to fully go back into 2WD. Would you happen to know what the cost of a new shift motor assembly is? Is this something I would have luck getting from salvage? I have 180K on it already.

your ex would never go to 2wd...when you get out of the 4x4 high and 4x4 low and put it back to auto 4x4 the wheels in the front still engage when the car senses they're slipping...there is nothing wrong with your truck...if the high and the low 4x4 engage when you press the buttons on the dash then you are all good...anyone else that can describe it better please chime in
