Explore '95 XLT
last couple of times out to the beach, my 95 explorer xlt
has been stuck in 4lo for 5 - 10 minutes. I pull to the
side of the access rd. and try to switch out and nothing happens.
drive a little way on dirt access rd and try again. it has taken 3 or 4
attempts to switch out.

and,, i pull over to the side and switch in and out of 4wd with my 5spd
manual in neutral. Is this correct? Or should I/can I swithc on the fly?

thanks again guys,
have a good 4th

thanks IZwack,

(idid try a search,, wasnt working for some reason,, well that's another
forum!)

i did not know I had to have my foot on the brake,,,,,,,

if it's the manual transfer case, that sounds bad?
i'll search for that,, thx

You dont have to have your foot on the brake -- we only recommend that because you must stop and put the transmission in Neutral and therefore, the vehicle can move back/forward during the transition to or from LO gear.

And you dont have a manual transfer case, you have an electric transfer case.

electric transfer case,, even though I have a 5sp manual trans.?

Yup, if you have that dash switch that says like 4HI or 4LO or wahtever, then you have an electric transfer case. You'll know if you have a manual transfer case cauz then you'll have another floor shifter beside the transmission's shifter.
