So my cousin has a 94 explorer and when he bought it it needed at transfer case motor and then the 4wd worked fine. Now months later the truck sometimes get stuck in 4wd and when you press the button nothing happens. Its been stuck in 4wd for 2 days now. I took the switch out of my truck and tried it in hid with no luck so I have eliminated the switch. and I doubt it is the transfer case motor considering it was bought brand new and installed only about 4 months ago. Any input would help. My cousin is ready to burn the thing to the ground and won't leave me alone about it. Thanks in advance.

Try swapping the computer boxes between the 2 vehicles. Its located on the driver side, inside the panel where the washer fluid bottle is for the back glass.

Switched the computer with no luck... any other ideas?

Remove the motor and manualy turn it back too 2WD. When motor is removed check it on th bench to prove it is ok. But if you asked me I wold open it completly and check everything especially that plastic part.

Sounds to me, new motor or not, its another motor issue.

Hi:

Another issue to check is the cover on the shift motor. It must be lined up correctly or the internal circuit will not deliver the proper signals. When you look at the cover you will see several gradients which lines up with a gradient on the case.

Trust that helps

Should check motor first...easy to take off. See if it moves when you press the 4wd button.
