Ok, perhaps this has been answered before but I have read a bunch of threads on suspension and have not been able to clearly find the answer.

Question: On my 2000 AWD, what is used for springs in the front? In the rear I have leafs, but I do not see anything that acts like a spring in the front. Is it the torsion bars? I'm used to seeing some sort of spring in the front of all my vehicles and this one has got me stumped.

i dont get how they work either, but i know they hold my truck up quiet well. and for only taking 5 minutes and being free to adjust, i like how they lifted my truck.

they work by twisting, thats why its called a torsion twist.the bar is put through the lower arm and into the adjuster and then to make it act as a spring it is twisted by tightening the adjuster. since the bar is twisted it tries to get back to its normal state by pushing down the lower control arm which suspends the vehicle. God thats hard to explain through typing but i hope it helps...

Its complicated physics. And it works, thats all you need to know :p

Just a twisting motion attached to a hinged object. Sort of like doors that close themselves that have springs in the hinges.

Well......it works at suspending the vehicle, but as far as ride quality is concerned, not so much. :D

jimabena74 thanks for the pics....and everyone - thanks for the replies! When I first got my truck I though I might be missing something ;)

So do most trucks with leafs use tortion bars as well?

A lot of mid and full size trucks and SUVs in the 90s use them, most of them being 4WD.
