What up everybody. Im doing a new sub and amp job on a 97 eddie bauer, which already has a factory 6.5" sub and 85x1 amp, and im trying to figure out all the little things that need attention in the process.

Ive got a 6 ohm JL 10w3 dual coil sub and an mtx 251D amp that came with a factory test certificate rating it at 197 watts at 2 ohms with 12.5 volts [although i might be stepping up to a 311D, depending if i can work the circuit city guy right]. I made a ported box exactly to the dimensions recommended by JL and im in the process of upholstering it with tan vinyl, same as the interior of my ride.

As far as hooking up the amp, i was trying to get a wiring diagram for the stock headunit and unhook the factory sub amp from there, but i was reading a post that suggested wiring off of one of the rear speakers for the line in on the new amp so I think ill give that a try. I havent figured out how to do the power wires for the amp, im thinking just buy some wire and run them through the car. Using the wires for the existing amp wuold require a lot of work so im trying not to go that route.

Also along with the new bass, i want to hook up my ipod to the head unit somehow so i dont have to keep burning 12 song audio cds. My only idea so far is to splice into the cd changer line with a headphone cord somewhere from the center console so i can plug in the ipod. But i have this feeling ive tried running two sources into one input before and it didnt work, anyone have any ideas?

Im trying to keep this project to a tight budget; i got a good deal on the parts but ive spent a decent amount on the box for good wood and upholstry materials [because its got to be flossy ;)] and im trying to make the install as cheap and painless as possible, although they usually dont coincide. Also i really cant alter anything in the Any suggestions or stuff ive overlooked that people want to offer is well appreciated. oh yea, anybody know where i can get a wiring diagram? Anyone know if polyfill really enhances bass in a ported box? I think thats about it but hit me up with any ideas. peace.

atl - thanks for the links to the harnesses. I recently got an iPod, and I want a better connection to the factory stereo than using a cassette adapter.

I would like to see your set up - Waiting for your website to be finished.

i got the sub done and installed about a week ago, it came out pretty nice. the vinyl upholstering worked out pretty well and the amp got mounted in place of the stock one instead of on the box. it only cost me $60 to get it hooked up which was just for an hour labor to pull the panel off and replace the stock sub amp with the new one. i avoided new wiring, rcas, and adapters and harnesses this way, and it sounds pretty decent. i still dont know how to load the pictures up on this forum, if anyone wants to clue me in that would be nice. i decided not to worry about the ipod right now becuase it would cost a bit for the harness atl was talking about, plus i would lose my changer then. so im just going to wait until i replace the stock head unit and get one with either a line in on the front or just use the rca in on the back.

my ipod install is done, and im stoked...some of the photos should be up in a day or two....Blitzsafe WILL custom make a harness, where you can still keep the changer, and it will switch to aux by pressing "track up, track down"

finishing touches

i put a terminal connector in the back of the box today and stuck some strips of velcro (the hooked side) so the will grab the carpet and not slide around. also i got some gold connectors for the wire so i can easily take the box out and put it back in if i need the space in the trunk. the last step is to put cloth over the port hole to hide the staples and plywood.

CAN SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME HOW TO LOAD PICTURES ON THIS POST
