I want a small lift to my truck, but nothing extreme. Just a noticeable lift from stock. What does this cost and how does it effect driving safety??? I would like to keep my existing tires and just raise it up a bit!

Thanks for your suggestions.

search for 2nd gen lift, or anything like that youll find tons of stuff

ok

TT (or torsion twist)
add a leaf
warrior shackles
body lift

I'm surprised with as much as you've been around this site you haven't read up on these options yet.

i think you should go with a 4" suspension..... no body lift. if i had the money i would never touch a body lift. suspension loooks so much better. thats just $.02.

If you insist on keeping your stock tires, I wouldn't go over 2". Anything more, stock tires will just look silly. As Alec mentioned, a tortion twist and either add-a-leafs, or warrior shackles, are your best bet.

Some seconde generation explorers come equipped with 31" tires fromt the factory... (265's)... and liftinf the truck a bit will not improve anything... even looks. I have put an AAL on my 98 Sport and twisted front end up. Installed true 31" tires on some wider rims (15X8) and almost see no difference.

I'd go with a 4" suspension lift and install 33" tires on some nice 15X10" rims.

I have a 01 explorer sport and looking for a 4 inch lift or just something high enough to get some 33's on there cause im afraid of getting stuck in the mud with my stock tires and hight

look at some of my post or my pics I have a 2000 with the 4" superlift the pics are with 31" X Terrains everyone said it looked good not too high but a noticable difference. Today I bought a set of 33" BFG KM's on 15 x 10's they looked awesome but only one problem they rub when you turn so i have to do some trimming, I already removed the tupperware up front and they still rub. I would highly recomend this lift but if you want 33's you will have to go with the 15 x 8" rims or if you go with the 15 x 10's you will have to do some trimming. It does not appear to be very much but I will not start the trimming until tomorrow, pics will be up and hopefully someone will reply to my post with pics of there trim jobs but I say go with the 4" lift worth every penny, just my $.02

are there any lifts out there for a 01 explorer sport higher then 4' cause the legal limit here i va i believe is 7' and i want to get close as possable but don't wana spend too much

Thanks Robb - I think I'll take this advice. Alec, I just never really had the money to do this stuff until the tax returns came in! Now I am considering it, but I want to keep my stock tires because they are brand new!

What will all this stuff cost me???

Well, if one of the admins could move this topic into the right category (my bad!), I would appreciate it.

So anyways, keep in mind guys that my tires are just 30x9.5x15's.
Would a 2" lift look dumb with these tires (KO's)????

Thanks Again!

JD

you won't have problems with rubbing if you switch to 15X8 rims.... I know wider is better but with 15X10 you have to do lots of trimming...

I know... I did.

With 33"s on a 15x8 rim and 5" lift, I still had to trim the front inner fenders. The lift was a 3" body and 2" TT and shackles with add-a-leafs.

Jake's dad- The Warrior shackles are about $40 and the TT is free...unless you need longer bolts, which I did. I also used add-a-leafs. I think it would look fine with the 30"s. Do you have a Sport or 4 Door? If you have a Sport, put 4 door leafs on it.

Here is a pic of 33"s with the 5". I would imagine with a 2" and 30"s you'd have about the same look only slightly smaller. The fender clearance should look about the same as my pic. You could always add a 2" or 3" body lift and 33"s down the road!;)

Eventually it will lead to this if you're not carefull!!

i think with my 01 sport 2dr im gonna do a body lift bout 3 inch just so i can get some good sized tires on there and save 4 a 4 inch suspention lift so i will have 7 inch when finished

Mascman -

Your truck is BAD A$$!!!

I have a 4 door. I called around and got prices from $1900 to $2300 for a 2" lift. I was like WHOOOOOA NELLY!!

Thanks for the great input!

Hoyl Cow! Is that lift gold plated?!

If you don't want your ride affected, put on a 2" body lift. It would be about $100 and you won't notice much difference in body roll.

As long as you don't overdo it on the TT, you won't have problems. It will actually stiffen the ride a little, but in my opinion, it helped the cornering ability. They are just too soft from the factory.

Even with 8 to 9" of lift, mine hadles the corners well...I test it everytime I'm late for work!;)

it's pretty expensive but a good lift, especially suspension for IFS got to be...

Body Lift is OK as long as you don't drive like a maniac...

on the explorer I'd like to keep center of gravity as low as possible...

Center of gravity is lower with a body lift than with a suspension. With a BL, only the body is higher above the axles...with a Suspension lift, the motor, tranny, diff, etc is all lifted higher.

The complete Superlift with 4" rear leaf springs should still be less than $2000. I bought only the Superlift kit for the front for about $1150 from Summit Racing. The kit is 4" and I cranked the torsions an additional 1"...maybe slightly more! The rear lift leafs were going to be about $400 more.

The rear was done for $20 by relocating the leafs to the top of the axle. With my add-a-leaf and Warrior shackles on, the rear fender lip was almost 5 feet off the ground! With the add-a-leaf and shackle removed, it came to 6" of lift. I had already swapped to 4 door leafs which are a full leaf pack whereas the Sport had a mono-leaf. That's why most 2 door Xs are sagging in the rear.
