I was wondering if anyone could give me some info. about the differences between the super swamper tsl and the super swamper tsl radial. I have a set of road tires that i use for highway driving, so all i'm really looking for is a tire that is good on the trail and can take me the thirty miles or so to the trail without an extensive amount of vibration. I would appreciate any information anyone could provide. Thanks.

Im pretty sure the regular radials are bias ply which means theyre gonna be a ***** on the road since there is no belt. the radials should be alright on the road but its still gonna be noisy since theyre such beefy tires.

if you want something for trail only then get the TSL's. they are deeper lugged/more aggresive than the radials, and will not vibrate on road after they get warmed up. they will be loud, and they will only last about 15-20k max, but these are two issues that shouldnt concern you. the bias-ply's also have a tougher carcass and generally will hold up awsome offroad.

I loved my old 36x12.50 TSL Radials. Great on and off road!!! I'm now going to a 35x14.50 SSR. I've seen them both on just rock crawlers and pavement pounders. I'm really impressed with there design and drivability.

Namitey...you said "i'm pretty sure the radials are bias ply." Just to let you know those are 2 completely different types of tire.

I used to have a set of Swamper Radials and they were great on-road, not too loud and had road manners. Off-road they fared well, questionable in rain and snow though.

yeah youre right bias ply and radials are two different things. bias ply's have no belt :). I guess i didnt proof read well enough.

Radial vs. Bias-Ply

The Radials will last a little longer than the bias-ply due to the construction of the tire carcass. The Radials will have a shorter tread block due to the fact that the Bias-Ply tire creates friction when it conforms to a bump in the road - shortening the treadblock's life. The Radial on the other hand will conform in a way that it won't grind the pavement as badly, keeping that shorter treadblock more in tact. Also, the radial will have a thinner sidewall, but if you feel this sidewall, it's still nice and fat. The Bias ply tire will need to be rotated more often - at every oil change - or 3-4,000 miles. That's a lot of work!

I'm curious: what made you decide on changing from TSL's to SSR's?

Well honestly its there sidewall strength. Our rocks here in Idaho are lava rocks so your playin very sharp stuff. I like the TSLs but the sidewall isn't for very low psi here. The SSRs on the other hand have more sidewall protection then the TSL radials. In my opinion anyways. I just read and whatch them perform and go from there.
