in regards to your OBD 2 port not working: there is a fuse that when it blows will cause the port to not function. Check your manual to see which fuse it is. That is probably your problem right there.

Yup looked at it today and the fuse was blown. Replaced fuse went to advanced for a OBD II read and sure enough. Both banks are running lean.
Looks like Ill have to go get a good tune sooner than I wanted.

Who's gonna do your tune?

Bamachips all the way buddy, that's what I got

Not sure. I was going to see what a local shop might charge. I have to keep the college student budget in mind.

Ive been told to regap my plugs to .046 versus the stock .056 would this help aid reduce the lean condition? Right now Im getting horrible gas milage and would like to do anything possible to fix it.

The gap of your plugs won't affect your lean condition. Your engine is drawing in too much air and not enough fuel. Gotta get a tune before you hurt your engine.

Closer gap is generally used for forced induction; avoids the air/fuel charge which is traveling faster from, in effect, "blowing out" the spark.

Before you run high boost for more than a few seconds, I would strongly urge a good dynotune. It is easy to go lean and destroy pistons and valves.

Doug at Bamachips supplied me with a generic tune for my centrifigul forced induction set-up and I ran on that for a while until dyno day in NC this past winter with Doug.

I wouldn't even get into boost w/o a wideband A/F fuel gauge...I bought one from AEM, a wideband. With the booster pump it rich'ns right up to 11.5, w/o the pump I would be piston melting lean.....

Spark plug gap I set for was .030 to .035, but I think with the roots you could go a little wider...and went for NGK coppers to dissapate the heat better.

BTW, nice setup. You also can add a fuel pressure gauge

What booster pump did you go with? Would this kit work? ZEX Booster Fuel Pump Kit #82020

The booster pump and FMU was a packaged item in the Ford Racing SC kit.
I have a returnless setup as you should have, contact Ford Racing and see if you can purchase it....

it is a 200lph with a FMU at 12:1 using a Hobb switch at 1psi.

Comes with all the fittings pre-attached.

An FMU (fuel management unit) is an option but most performance specialists recommend staying away from this unit as it is prone to failure and results in a lean condition. Thus, an upraded tank fuel pump with/without an inline supplemental boost pump is the most safe and efficient along with upgraded injectors and a proper tune/reflash of the PCM.

Ask Doug from Bamachips as the expert resource-he will steer you in the right direction.

Also, the FMU comes in different ratios which need to be carefully considered with the size injectors that are currently installed (stock vs upgraded.)

Ok I spoke with Doug, then ExplorerExpress, then a local sct tuner. Recommendations were bigger MAF, bigger injectors and bigger fuel pump/booster pump. Now... I ask for some help. Trying to locate all of those that would work on my vehicle. MAF so far has been a flop noone claims to have on that will work for a 4.0 Explorer. Injectors... basically "plug and play" (minus computer tuning) and fuel pump/booster where to start?? I would like to get rid of my lean condition and start jumpin on this bad boy and see what it can really do. Including a dyno test to see what my numbers are.
MAF???
INJECTORS???
FUEL PUMP/BOOSTER???

dang thats nice

MAF???
INJECTORS???
FUEL PUMP/BOOSTER???
Hardly any performance parts are listed for the explorer. What parts should I get so they work?

Anyone? With 600+ views someone has had to of installed a larger maf or know of what maf I can use to work. I an running lean and would like to get a tune asap.

Do some research on the Lightning 80 mm MAF meter (stock 99-00) or 90 mm (01 and above) and let us know the results.

Im pretty sure I can install my stock MAF guts into the lightnings Maf housing. But will the 90mm be too big? The local napa has one in stock. I dont want to spend the $200 and find out its too big.

Since the stock MAF "peg's" i.e. it can't meter the increased air flow needs appropriately from an electronic standpoint, simply installing the stock "guts" is a poor decision.
