Supercharger Installed!!!!!!!

Troll, if I ever get over to Fl. I'll give you a race. I think you'll whip my butt though; it won't be much of a contest.

Chad, I had a complete thread on the dyno numbers. The thread was titled "dynoriffic". Basically, I dynoed ~200 hp and 250 tq at the wheels. That equates to about 260/320 at the crank. The curves of the final dyno run were very flat, so though those numbers are peak hp and tq, I have pretty much optimal power throughout the power band. I have tweaked some stuff slightly since that dyno run, so now I'm probably at something like 265/325. However, small variances like that sometimes happen at the dyno anyway. Oh: and as for the very low end, at WOT the blower kicks in as low as 1500 RPM, so the power is definately there. I can smoke my tires at will, even with 3.27 gears :)
Just for reference, the stock Explorer V8 makes about 210/280? at the crank

Oh, and the reason some of the photos didn't come up is probably because Photopoint has been sucking lately. Try going directly to my albums: http://albums.photopoint.com/j/AlbumList?u=1159657 : recent truck pix and the dyno album.

Ok :) They seem to be working this time.. Sorry about the dyno #'s, I didn't realize they were on a different post, I was looking for them in this group.. Thanks again..

I was hoping we could get Pur Pony, Scapener, and Cameron envolved in a race too. We should have a meeting of the most powerful explorers on the board. We could show our cars and do a little racing too.

Now that I've read this thread, I'm thinking of saving up for a SC myself. I've got a few questions that will help me decide if I should or not. Will BBK custom program the new add-on computer to take advantage of other engines mods? Cat-back, headers, bigger MAS, bigger TB, etc... Did that air induction system come with the SC? If I do get the SC, in what order should I install the following items in: headers, bigger MAS, bigger TB?

John,
The BBK computer comes preprogrammed, but adapts well to mods. It also has a timing controller that allows you to set spark timing for optimum efficiency. The controller mounts in the cab so you can even set it on the fly. I set it when I dynoed and probably wont have to reset it until it gets over 100 degrees in the summer. The secondary fuel management unit is also adjustable. With these adjustments, you don't really need custom programming. The SC kit came with a new intake tube, but the filter element I have is the KN kit. As for other mods, I would definately recommend to have the TB and headers before the SC, but the MAS can wait. I'm still using the stock MAS.

one more question

Keeping in mind that I do go off road every so often, would the SC give TOO much power in your opinion. I don't want to spin tires when in low range if I don't want to. I need torque, but not so much that I can't handle it. Do you think installing headers would take some torque away? (sorry that made 2 questions)

Headers WITH the SC will not diminish torque. The added air exiting the engine with the blower will fully utilize the headers and flow well. However, when the engine isn't under much load and the blower's computer opens the wastegate (causing the blower's boost to be vented instead of going into engine), there will be less airflow in the headers and diminished efficiency of the exhaust pulses. However, you're coasting or at a constant velocity and it's hp you're using at that point, not torque.

As for too much power, it probably depends on what gears you have. If you have stock tires with something like 4.10 gears, you might have a hard time planting the power. With anything less than that though, you just learn how to modulate the throttle. Also, good posi units or locker front and rear would help immensely. Splat's in the shop right now getting his posi put in. With the posi in, planting the power will be much easier.

Too much power? Hahaha. no such thing. :) Well... hopefully I will have my supercharger one day... I just have this thing about not holding on to money. I blew my tax refund on a new computer. :P So...if anyone wants to donate 3 grand.. let me know.

Me too!

I have 3.55's with 31" tires and will hopefully have a HD Auburn LS or a ARB air locker by the time I can actually save up that much. I wonder if the bank will give me another loan with REALLY LOW payments?:)

Troll has too much power now and it is not a very good street truck. he just got done breaking his stock Diff and has upgraded to a auburn and has now broken his second Trans. with a peice of junk trans and 3.55 gear 28 inch tall tires he could smoke the tires in a second gear roll. Troll and QaudCam raced once it was pretty funny to watch.

Ratings

The stock V8 Explorer in accordance with SAE J1349 advertised peaks: 288 lb-ft @ 3300 RPM, 215 HP @ 4200 RPM

Your 4.0 L SOHC peaks 240 lb-ft @ 3250 RPM, 210 HP @ 5250 RPM in accordance with SAE J1349

if that is all you have you are going to have a hard time beating Troll. yes you can dyno a awd drive explorer just ask Purepony. we will give a couple of months to tune and then we are expecting a race ok. it is getting boring beating up on FERRARI 355 Spider and Porsche on the street. we enjoy a good race.

I hate rain sometimes

My friend and I were going to take Splat to the drag strip tonight. Too bad it started raining. We haven't had a chance to take it out there yet because it taken almost 2 hours to get there during Friday rush hour. Oh well, maybe by the start of May we'll make it out there.

Alec, if you don't get out to the track soon, I'm gonna steal Splat and test it for you! LOL...can you tell I'm anxious for the times? :D

I see....yer ass is gonna go to texas to steal Splat, but miss out on a good weekend of wheelin in Attica.....I see, real cool Matt....real cool! ;)

Fuel pump

Do you have a part number for the fuel pump you are using? Or know what year truck it is from?

Thanks!

Nope, sorry.

My mechanic in Austin got it from a buddy at the Ford dealer this year, so I'm assuming it's from a newer Lightning. I think they've all used the same ones for a while.
