Supercharger or Stroker for Towing?

First I think I would have went with( and I will be going with) 4.56 gears These aod's love to shift early, and build heat. In your situation, IF you had the coin, I would do gears ...again..ugh! sorry but I would, then build the trans (only because I dont see it in your sig of whats been done?) then of course..searching throghout the USA for a bolt on s/c..lol. I have no idea of what parts of mustangs kits, f150 lightning kits, etc would be of pieces/parts help, although if I was in the position, I would be researching that as well. I dont think I would discount a turbo, or even a STS style turbo either. Im currently slowly build our 5.0 to also haul expedition style back roads, along with a nice size AC TRV or Outtie Max.

The 4.10 gears for me were cheap. I already had a 4.10 LS rear end out of a '00 Explorer with 20k miles that I had in my '94 for a while and kept it when I traded to the '98. I then found a 4.10 front carrier from a salvage yard out of a '00 ranger with 63k miles on it for $150 ... just had to replace all the seals.

I think 4.56 would be great with a little larger tires, but not with near stock size like I have. I found some gearing/RPM calculators on the net when I looked at it and you're going to be turning really high RPM's just before the transmission shifts from 2nd to 3rd at 60mph.

The perfect gearing for me would have been 4.27's ... they would have put the peak torque RPM of the TM headers right at about 65-70mph. But, no one makes these for our reverse front ends.

As far as the transmission, have just added a Mag-Hytec pan with 4qts extra capacity. No transmission problems ...

Great info on the 4.10 sourcing!! thanks!. I am running 31's currently, and for sure will not go over a 33. After owning a Durango, the best MPG mod was gears...same ratio.(4.56) I had plans for TM headers, but to scarce, so 4.56, plus the fact I also will have heavy bumpers, and already have a 3rd row seat installed, I think the rpm would be liveable.??? much better then my old 350 4spd monza spyder with 3.73 and 13" tires? The trans pan is a great addition...I have been looking at the same one. I would also add...(as I am this summer) a larger trans cooler with fan. I am also gonna start my search on different mods on snappier shifting, and any other mods that are worthwhile for these transmissions. Im not Explorer savvy, but its better to be over prepared, then under..lol

again, thanks for the tip on the sourcing of 4.10's! it COULD be liveable for some uses, maybe even mine, but I do also plan on hauling atv's, and off roading pulling a narrow trailer with atv's, so for me, I think 4.56 would be best. I dont want my trans giving up the ghost too soon
