I am interested in purchasing a Superchip for my 99 4.0 5 speed. A Superchip is supposed to increase hp and torque, while also changing the shift points, but is it possible to change shift points in a manual transmission explorer?? And if there will be no change in my shift points, does anyone know if the hp and torque gains are significant enough to compensate? I think the ad claims something like 17hp and 30ft/lbs of torque. anyone know if these are anywhere close to accurate? any help would be appreciated. thanks!

Superchip

Check out the SuperChip group purchase under Gourp Purchases. Matt has worked pretty hard trying to set it up. Mike Troyer (sp?) is the guy at SuperChip to call if you wanna oreder one. His contact info is in the thread.
In that thread also, there's a link to someone from the Ranger board talking about the differences he felt in a SuperChip vs the Diablo Chip. Mike sells both.
And to directly answer your question, kinda: The chip has a larger impact on an automatic since a manual can shift wherever in the RPM band he wants to. But that hasn't disuaded me from wanting one for my 98 Sport OHV 5 speed!!

well to tell you the truth Superchips head programer left them about a year and half ago to start his own company Diablo chips. since he left they have had more problems programing chips and getting things right. i would have to say that the chips are equal but if one was going to be better it would be diablo because he was there best programer and designer.

I was wondering about the story behind the story. I'd read the comparison on the Ranger board, and was sold on the Diablo chip. Just been lazy in ordering it.
Since someone more "in the know" is up here, what would you say are the specific performance benefits to adding a chip? And are there any modifications to your engine which would enhance gains, or detract from gains?
Thanks,
Karl
