Add one more component to the long list of Superlift parts that have failed on me.
I just thought I'd warn those of you with the SuperRunner steering about a failure that I had this weekend. When this happened I had no steering at all. I was extremely lucky that this broke while creeping along on a trail and not while driving at highway speeds.
The idler arm bracket broke off of the crossmember mount. The scary thing is that it was the welds that broke. On closer examination the one weld had been broken for a very long time and the bracket was only being held together by the one remaining weld that had almost zero penetration. This remaining weld failed with a fairly loud bang and I was left without steering.
A trail fix was made by modifying a Cherokee linkage to accept one of my tie rods. This allowed me to get back to camp. I then bought a stock steering linkage from a nearby junk yard. I will be leaving the stock steering in there as I honestly don't notice any bump steer and my steering actually feels better than with the Superlift steering.
