2023 Explorer St-line
My wife has a 2023 Ford Explorer st line and while I was driving it the suspension seems to bounce slightly even on what looks like smooth roads. It feels similar to a bad strut but not as violent. At first, I thought it could be a bad tire, wheel or balance issue but the dealer looked it over and said that everything was fine and checked out. I have never been carsick in my life but after driving this thing for 30 minutes I had to pull over because the constant up down motion made me feel ill.

Welcome to the Forum
Since the vehicle is under warranty, why not take it to the dealer and have a tech do a "ride-along" with you so you can explain what you are noticing?

I did take it into the dealership and after taking them for a drive and them looking at the suspension and rechecking the tires and wheels they say they cant find anything wrong and sent me on my way even though the issue was still there.

Can a ford dealer spin balance a tire?

Verify tires aren't over filled.

If they're Hankook tires good luck

The dealer I was at does have a spin balance machine.
I gauged the tires (cold) with 2 different gauges and verified the computer monitoring and they are all correct within 1 psi.
Fortunately no Hankook tires they are Perelli scorpion zeros.

Have the tires been checked for the loose foam issue? Those tires have had a problem with that causing issues. Here is a thread about it. Pirelli tire foam seperation

Those tires would have the "PNCS" marking on them if they have the foam.

Could there be flat spots on the tires?
I read that the vehicles stored on the lots for months waiting for recall parts had this problem.

Flat spots usually even themselves out within a few miles.

You might have a out-of-round tire. I bought some Nokians for another vehicle from Discount Tire and noticed some bouncing on the freeway. I took it in and they found two tires that were out-of-round. They found it by accident when they were spin balancing the tire. They used a hand tool to press on the tread to stop the spinning tire to add some weights and actually felt it. So no matter how well the tired was balanced on the machine, the bouncing was still there. Since the tires were less than 30 days old, they replaced them for free and that solved the issue.

If you recently service on the suspension... this is how a loose belt first felt to me on the rear right. Took the dealer way to long to find it. But if you feel it bounce / shift as you step on the gas or feel the car pulling one way... find a dealer you trust and have them check for loose connection

Did they figure out what was going on? I am having the same issue and am on the lemon route.

FYI, the member you quoted was last seen here on January 20, 2024. Hopefully, he is still around.
Have you taken it to the dealership to have it checked out?

Peter

I have not yet been able to solve the issue as ford keeps dragging their feet. So far they have replaced shocks, rebalanced tires, rotated tires, verified tires aren't out of round. I have asked them to try swapping the wheels and tires but so far they have refused and it has now been in the shop 12 times in less than a year.

It seems that they have checked most things I would have thought of. It would be not easy to swap wheels/tires since it's unlikely they have spares sitting around to do that. Has an alignment been done? Does this happen at a particular speed? How many miles do you have on it?

An alignment was done. I bought it new with under 50 miles and it now has about 4,000 miles. I haven't been able to pinpoint a certain speed that it's worse at but with higher speeds it's not as noticeable.

Thank you for letting me know. So far they have replaced the tires twice and keeps happening. Road force balance is proving that there is an issue. They also had to replace front end due to a rattling issue. I am supposed to bring the car back in again for them to swap the wheels and tires. One of the people at my dealership I spoke with confirmed this is an issue with ST and Platinum models. If they come up with a solution I’ll let you know.

Hi there,

I also notice a bouncing that is most noticable at around 40-50 km/h. It also seems to be not consistent, varying in strength from drive to drive. Had it been consistent it would naturally be easier to diagnose.

Very strange...
