First:Will it fit, and would I need to reprogram stuff/and what size tire?

Second
How would it look on a Spruce Green Mountaineer?

I'll post a picture of what the car would look like.

That is a fat mountaineer! I'm loving it, did you have to reprogram anything? What kind of tire did you use? How much did those and the rest of your mods cost you, btw?

TURBODREAMS:

Thanks, glad you like it. No reprograming was needed The best way to find the SVT rims (or in general the 5 spoke mustang rims) is to comb craigslist. They're way too pricey new, and ebay means u pay shipping (heavy as hell), so look for anything mustang related. These were 17's off a 2003 SVT Cobra. The guy only wanted $325 for them so i lucked out (w/ a few bumps and bruises of course but nothing serious). The tires i also found on craigslist w/ the same rims in em!! But, they were screwed up, so i bought 3 good treaded tires and a new one for $120. They are Toyo Proxes S/T - 275/R17/111v. I do however need wheel spacers now b/c the tires are so wide, they're very close to my control arm in the wheel well.

My performance parts were all from explorerexpress.com. $250 for the chip and $180 for the intake i think? The muffler was $165 straight from flowmaster but u can look around and get a better deal. Unfortunately nothings cheap for our trucks.

The lights were a waste of my time. Still get some compliments for having green lights and being unique, but HID is the best route so i swapping. Everything else is pretty easy to find as far as I know on the internet.

Glad to help you w/ anything else pal ;) good luck

GHOSTER:

Hey man, I live in Huntington. I saw a thread you wrote awhile back about a NY car meet and posted but never got a reply from anyone actually ha. No big, good to hear from another LIer.

Anywhere near me?

Wow, yeah, I was scoping Ebay, haha a lot of guys want $800 for the Tires and rims, then about 150-199 for shipping. :P If I can find a guy around philly for some cheap rims, I'd be extremely happy, and I'd jump up and down like a twelve year old girl if I got them at the same price you did.

So my dad and I were talking, he said, that since the Cobra is a rear wheel drive car, the rear tires/suspension would be fine. He did say however that the racket/pinion on the front would be messed up due to the difference in the offset. Is this true? I mean, he knows a lot about cars... but then again he BSs sometimes about some stuff to make himself seem like he knows it all. Not to say he doesn't know a lot... but he thinks he knows everything.

Again I quote from my father, "If the offset is different then you will mess up the front pinion, because the SVT Cobra is a rear wheel drive car, the rear would be fine, however the front would be messed up." Real question here is then, would the offset "Match" and if it didn't would it mess up my pinions or anything for that matter? NYMounty, I mean, do you have a lot of problems with your front end, or does it seem fine? I get the feeling that the offset must match pretty well because nobody tells me that they have problems about it, and it seems like a pretty common rim swap.

I'm not sure, mainly cause I never looked into it a lot. But I don't think the offset will be that bad. Look at all the people with the chevy/gmc trucks putting crazy offsets so the wheels stick out like half a foot. (at least the chevy/gmc drivers around my area) Then again... Putting spacers on vehicles mess things up.. So I don't know.

of course I can't find a pic of what I'm talking about with the chevy's... Pretty much, smaller rims like 15's or so, with regular-oversixed side walls, but not wide tires, even with the rim, and the tires and rim stick out like crazy.. Not like mudding tires, just regular tires with the twist in them, usually chrome and black or chrome and red. Maybe someone gets the idea.. lol

I have no problems......the rims fit excellent and so many people have put the cobra rims on their explorers and mountys w/o any trouble, so i never really worried about it. Should be fine IMO

That's what I figured, what is the difference in the offset anyways, do you know what the cobra rims are?

Yes! That's what I was trying to find. lol. They do it so much around my area. it's awful.

Yeah, so I guess my dad was just double checking to make sure I don't mess up my newly purchased car. I figured it wouldn't be too bad.

Better safe than sorry, thanks guys.

That's true, no prob.

Quick question though, with the tires being wider, would it cause rubbing on anything, I know you said in an earlier post that you have spacers, but is it neccessary? I'm thinking of some 275/55/17 Toyo Proxes S/T. I was looking at the different brands and came across that, and what do you know, you have the Proxes aswell, NY. I'm going to go with the 109s opposed to the 111s because they are only .1 inches shorter opposed to an inch taller, and they are about .4 inches narrower than the 111vs. It's looking good. If I show my dad the numbers I think he will let me buy them from the guy.

After putting these rims and tires on, I can't crank the wheel all the way or it rubs bad. There are spots on the backs of my fronts where u can see its been done a couple times. I can't even fit a finger in between the control arms and the tire. When i got my ball joints done the mechanic even recommended i put them on. I dunno about necessary, but down the road u could run into some problems.

The Proxes are good tires, can't complain. Don't even think of using them in the snow haha, had to drive home from school in a NH blizzard once and thats the most scared i've ever been in a vehicle ha. They're good, not too loud and u get used to the sound they do give off. Grip well, never had a problem in the rain. Screech every 5 seconds esp. on turns haha.

So are you saying that you didn't have spacers on at first and the Mechanic suggested you put on spacers, so you did? Where can I buy some of these spacers?

Yea pretty much. Theres space, they don't touch or anything on a regular basis, only if i crank the wheel like i mentioned. But they are close, so yes the mechanic recommended them to be safe.

Spacers aren't ur typical on the shelf product. If theres a race shop, specialty parts store or something near u check em out for either spacers 4 ur application, or universals.
Otherwise u gotta search the internet. I'm still in the process but i'll let u kno when i find some
