So i go one from the junkyard the other day for $500, its only got 80,x.. miles on it
thought it was a pretty good deal though bein as my old one had a spun rod bearing and cracked head with 173,x.. miles on it :D
Well this past weekend i pretty much worked my ass off and got the old one out and the new junkyard one in
but my problem is after i got it in and all hooked up i went to put the fly wheel nuts back on (the ones that connect the flywheel and torque converter) and as i got to turn the engine round to get to the other bolts it dont wont to turn but a few turns and then locks up, so i turn it the other way and it does the same thing.
what could be causing this?
it feels like it bindin, also it has a knocking sound comin from the flywheel whenever i turn it
is there something im missin, cause weve spent about 6 hours trying to figure this out so far.
its kinda becomin a headache.

is it hard to turn even with the spark plugs removed? Might just be compression thats making it difficult

That was going to be my first question:D

It takes both hands to turn it over. I tried to use a 1/2" drive to trurn it with one hand but that proved to be more af a problem controlling how far it turns.

Take your time and make sure you turn it clockwise only.

like mentioned above CLOCKWISE only

you dont want to run your timing set backwards....

engine that have sat for a long time can develop a rust ring in the cylinder, the piston has a DIFFICULT time rotating past the rust ring

Spray some penetrating oil in all the cylinders now (through spark plug holes)

It may take a cheater bar to get the engine to break loose, clockwise

I have had to PULL an engine before due to this (meaning installed, found it was frozen, pull again), always turn them over before installing them, heck before buying them

Alright I took the plugs out and still aint turnin
so ima spray some penetrating oil down in them tomarow and let yall know how it goes

I have read a lot that numerous fixes such as PB Blaster, trans fluid and Marvel Mystery oil in the spark plug holes.

The one thing they all had in common was No WD-40.

I would guess it would be best to let it sit over night if you can.

keep us updated.

alright so i got it to turn
i pulled the plugs and put some penetrating oil in it
and went back bout 1hour later and it turned
thanks for the help

Rust ring busted! nice job
