The past few days, my project has been swapping a Blaupunkt factory radio from an 04 focus into my ST. I found mention of somebody putting one in a 90's Ranger, but couldn't find any pictures or other information.
It turned out to be a fairly straightforward procedure...
The radio being a factory ford is nearly the same size as ford trucks, and the same mounting system. the dash in a focus is curved, therefore the radio is as well, but I don't mind the look in the ST dash at all.
As far as wiring, it uses the german blaupunkt connectors, so I used a couple of Metra harnesses to adapt it, and it seems to work just fine. The antenna is also a european style plug; an adapter took care of that. I went to a local car audio shop for parts, but they're also available on amazon.
Physically, it slide right into the ST radio bezel, but sat into the dash about 3/4" too far. Not a big deal, but I made some aluminum brackets to bring the locking point further out.
sorry about my grimy interior! my sport trac is a truck, and I use it as such.
I'm no audiophile, but the new unit sounds better than my previous ford unit from an 07 Ranger. It's capable of much more volume (will distort the factory speakers) and generally better bass, mids and highs. I like the interface and options.
I have parts coming to allow an aux input though the CD-changer that I obviously don't have, will update when that happens.
