Swapping rear hatch

I'm trying to put an explorer hatch on my mountaineer, it's the same darn hatch but it seems the hinges are different. Am I crazy? The explorer hatch sits too high, there is a stupid gap, and I've got it down as far as it will go in hinge slots.
Anybody know if mountaineers have different hinges?
