I will be going on a run this weekend and was wondering if there is an advantage to taking my rear sway bar off? Should i just do the rear and not the front? Will it help any? Thanks for any help.

Rod, I would think that the advantages are greater with the rear bar removed or disconnected as opposed to the front, but I have no proof. It just seems like the rear axle has the potential for far more articulation than does the IFS front end.

I'm going to use the ramp at Attica when I go there next month to see what the differences are (if I get time) between the various combinations of sway bar conditions. I want to try it with both on, each one removed individually, and both disconnected.

I saw a picture comparison (here on the board somewhere)of having the sway bars on and off and going through the same obsticle, but it was one truck had both on, the other both off. The bars are limiters, so just guessing I'd say you would bennefit from it off-road, but would want to hook them back up before hitting the paved road.

can anyone give a brief desciption on how to take off the rear sway bar for a '97 and late models. This info would be very helpful, not only to me but others as well i would think. Ive looked underneath and seen a few nuts and bolts connecting but just not sure how many there are total to loosen and which ones.
Thanks

Rod, I left my rear swaybar on; I just removed the links. Look at the ends of your rear swaybar. The ends bolt to rods about 10" long that bolt the swaybar into the frame. Just remove the rods. Simple five minute task. End of job.

Rod,
Gerald is right, All you have to do is unbolt the lower link, pull it out from the lower bolt mount and use bungi cords to tie the sway bar and link rod to the frame. When finished do the reverse and your ready for the Highway.
I don't know if you have this on your sport, but If you also have that fifth shock going from the frame to the rear diff, right in front of the rear passenger side wheel. Get rid of that, or disconnect that. It really hampers the articulation of the rear end.
