swaying in the rear.

hey guys/driving my 98 explorer xlt all wheel dr,i was all over the road had to slow down a few times.i jacked it up when i got home and i could grab the wheels and move them in and out about an 8th of an inch on both sides,anybody got any ideas.
 












For clarification, did you check the front or rear wheels? If it was the rears, did the wheel move from the hub like the lug nuts were loose? Or did it feel like it was pulling the whole axle shaft out?

Some in/out play on the rear wheels is normal(about 1/8 inch) due to the c clips on the axle shafts.
