What is your opinion about Mobil 1 synthetic instead of synthetic blend ATF ?

What do you recommend instead of plain Mercon:

1) Mobil 1 Synthetic Mercon V:

2) Mobil (synthetic blend) Multi-Vehicle ATF:

3) Chevron (synthetic blend) Mercon V (renamed to Multy-Vehicle ATF):

3) Motorcraft (synthetic blend) Mercon-V (may be OEM Chevron Mercon V)?

p.s. Quote from E-C forum:
In fact, the description of the electronic controls for the CD4E reads the same as the 4R70W. It does about as much anticipation and adapting as the Dodo bird. It follows set shift line pressure, shift schedule, cold temp shift characteristics, TC clutch lockup, TC unlock/lock schedule, etc... that is set in the PCM. Once you reach a certain throttle position and vehicle speed, it shifts/locks/unlocks TC as necessary based on sensor input.

4R100s cannot use Mercon-V because the friction modifiers cause the TC clutches to fail. Synthetic Mercon can be used in the 4R100. The PTO part of the 4R100 is what "adapts"... there's no such option for the CD4E.

p.p.s. Interesting information from http://forum.e46fanatics.com/showthread.php?p=7915990

I've been using Valvoline Full Synthetic Mercon V since I got my transmission rebuilt.

What is your opinion about Mobil 1 synthetic instead of synthetic blend ATF ?

In general, a full synthetic is going to have better properties than a syn blend.

One important piece of information that you did not include is what transmission you are going to use it in.

If you are going to use Mobil 1 Full Syn Mercon V in a transmission that originally required Mercon V, like the 5R55E, then you are good to go because it meets Mercon V specs.

If you are going to use it in a transmission that originally required Mercon like the 4R100, then it is not as clear because Ford used to warn you that using Mercon V would ruin your transmission, but then changed their mind a couple of years ago and now say Mercon V is ok for all. So were they full of **** back then, or are they full of **** now?

If you are going to use it in a BMW, I really don't know whether it works or not.

1. I have Ford Escape 2006, originally was filled with Mercon.
2. There is no Amsoil in Europe. There is no other synthetic Mercon V in Europe besides Mobil 1.

For some reason, the Ford Escape requirement is very confusing. Apparently some models call for Mercon and some call for Mercon V. Ford now says that you should use Mercon V for any models that used to require Mercon.

I have recently been researching this online because my GF bought a motorhome that has a 4R100 transmission. It originally used Mercon and the owners manual and service manuals contain dire warnings not to use Mercon V in that transmission. But Ford stopped licensing the Mercon spec, and now all ATF is supposed to meet the Mercon V spec.

As far as Mobil 1 goes, it is a good product. I am considering using Mobil 1 in the 4R100 in my GF's motorhome. I use AMSOil in my Explorer.

BTW, Amsoil will ship any where I believe, not cheap of course.

Amsoil has another special trans fluid designed to be better than some special Allison fluid. The original fluid is very expensive, Amsoil's version is much more reasonable. Check to see if that is applicable for the 4R100. Regards,
