What kind of oil should I go with?

I've been using conventional on my 93 XLT and 03 AWD V8.

you will get 10,000 differing opinions on this topic. I use mobile 1 synth. I think it oxidizes less than conventional and cost about $25. at W-mart. If mine should ever overheat then I think that the synth will hold it's viscosity.

Castrol GTX 10W-30 no reason to ever use anything else.

not the same vehicle but when i had crashed my explorer i borrowed my moms 2000 tracker and changed the oil to synthetic, i noticed a small but noticable increase in gas mileage.

If your not burning to much oil right now, switch to full synthetic... otherwise it may be time to switch to a high mileage.

oil

Motorcraft/Phillips/Conoco Premium Synthetic Blend. Best oil you can get for the price. I've used Mobil 1, Amsoil, Penz full syn. I know everybody has an opinion but when you can get the Motorcraft for 13 bucks at walmart it's hard to beat. I also have a friend in the oils testing lab at Conoco. I'll feel good using what he uses. He puts in 60 miles a day back and forth to work. In the long run it doesn't matter to me because I don't put enough miles on a vehicle to make a difference.

FYI- Spending more money for BLEND is like the 2% milk rip off. (98% water) and we pay extra for it. The cows are laughing on that one.
The government allows oil company's to call it a BLEND if it has at least 10% synthetic added to regular oil. So how much do U think they ad?.10% would be good guess.
What is the value of 10% synthetic ,(0). Another big money maker for them.

Agree on that. I had clumps of sludge in my pan one time and went full synth. The old oil looks new now. In FL the weather can go from 40 deg f to 85 deg f in half a day which can bring condensation through the high humidity here.

It cost about $10 to upgrade so no matter how cheap you may feel at the store, think long term. There is some argument that there is a fuel savings too.

I'm not a expert but the real difference between dino oil vs blends is the add pack. Yes , blends typically have about 20% sythetics added to them but the blends also have increased additives over dino oil. Blends have a similair add pack to synthetics. And for most applications the only real advantage to using full synthetics is better cold weather performance . As in easier starting.

High milage oils usually have a higher viscosity and stay in grade ( non-energy conserving ) longer that non-high milage oils. However , with this increase in viscosity , you will see a decrease in MPG . Like 2-3 MPG in my case

I use 10w-30 Synpower in my 5.0 Thunderbird and 5w-30 Sythetic Maxlife in the Explorer .

I have done this before and I think the best oil would be your own viscosity mix .

Olive 'oil...Brutus and Popeye been fightin' over her for a few decades now...they can't be wrong. But the experts will have to set this one straight...mere minions are not capable of this.

I was a GTX 10w-30 guy.....my father-in-law was also...so the Explorer had 140k miles on the original motor with nothing but GTX ever put in it.

We changed the oil every 5,000 miles. It never burnt any oil. It never overheated.

But on a recent offroad trip, the road was so bumpy that it shook loose all the oil 'flakes' in the motor, and they were SO BAD that they clogged the oil pump screen and I lost all oil pressure. It STILL made the 2 hr. drive home, after being towed down off the mountain....but the motor was gone.

NEVER will I run GTX ever again. It's synthethic only for me from now on. Synthetic is just better. Period.
