power needs to be run down the opposite side of the car as the rca or input lines, otherwise it creates something kind of like cross talk (where you hear someone elses conversation on your phone). Also best to mount the amp to a piece of wood and not just the seat or something. Do both of those plus check all your grounds and the whine should go away. PS best for amps to be atleast 3 feet from the headunit.

does the noise get louder w/acceleration-if so it's prolly alternator whine. if the wires are already ran on opposite sides of the vehicle and you're still getting this try better rca's. if it's an explorer, if there is a pump in the gas tank it could cause interference as well.

for a quick fix, you can try a ground loop isolator. I have one for testing systems that have a case of the whines. If the GLI fixes the problem, then I tend to check out the rest of the wiring. Just like everyone else has stated, you must run the power lead on one side of the vehicle and the RCA's down the other side. You also need to make your ground wire(s) as short as possible. You can also verify that the noise is coming from the alternator if you turn the system on without the vehicle running...i.e. ignition turned to aux. I run 4 gague power wire and triple shielded RCA's and have yet to have this issue. These are the same cables that were in my Ranger and my Probe.

good luck...
