Hey ya'll,
I have a few questions about the install that I'm getting closer to getting. I got 2 x12" kicker Comp VR.. 4ohm..speakers...Im going to build a box and mount both of them right beihind my Ex seat.. I dont have an amp yea becuse I havent decided on which one to get.
The box that I have designed at the moment (changes every couple of days) Has 1.75 c.ft. per sub.. So, by Kicker recommendations they can hndle 375 watts at 2ohms...each... So Which Amp?
I have mostly looked at Kicker Amps:
DX600 or impulse ix2302
It is pricy...but, from what I know (have heard) I like them the best. Well, ACtually I havent ever heard anything (up close) that wasnt Kicker. So, Does anyone have any reccomendations? Anyone have a good amp for sale? Should I get an amp that hits my subs RMS exactly..Or should I stay under that to be safe?
Im thinking aa 350 x 2 amp..or a 300 x 2 amp..Am I really going to head any difference in the 50 watts per sub? Someone told me I could give these speakers 200 Watts per sub..and I wouldnt hear any differnet between 200 and 400 watts.. Im not sure about that but, I do not know. I have asked alot of questions...and, anyone that Can help me with any of them.. Pleaaase do!! (Also wiring? What gauge for everything?)
Thanks in advance!!
Kendal

hello fellow arkansan! so how many watts are you planning give to each sub? fosgate amps are good and so are cerwin vega ones if you can find them reasonable priced. i would stay close to rms ,but i mean if you heard these things u may be able to feed it more and be safe do research on the speaker. im sure lots of people have them. as for gauge wiring depends on what amp you get i would use 4 gauge for amps and 10 gauge for you sub wire. hope this helps!

hey ever considered Audiobahn??
check out www.thezeb.com they got crazy audiobahn deals going on there i picked up an 800watt audiobahn amp for 260 shipped..
all audiobahn stuff there is brand new because they are authorized dealers.
check them out.. they probalby have the amp thats right for you.

Well seeing that Kicker nolonger makes the Impulse line and the DX600 has been replaced by the KX600.1 you will probably be able to get a good price on those amps. If it were me I would go with the KX600.1. They made some improvements on them and they are better priced this year compared to last year. All there D class amp like to run 2 ohms so keep that in mind.
If you are going to look for a amp try to go match the rms rating or go over it by a little. If yougo under it and push the amp hard it will distort and clip and kill your sub.

Hey,
thanks for all of the responses. I am going to look for a 400 x 2 amp... Can someone tell me what all of this Ohm stuff means? Resistance? or something..i aint to sure. My speakers have dual 4ohm voice coils, I do know that much. I'm just needing to know what amp to look for? Am I wanting to look at a 400.2 2ohm amp? 4 ohm? Or what? Is it better to have a lower or a higher ohm?
thanks alot,
Kendal

anybody know of an 800watt rms amp that is 1 ohm stable?
with dual voice coil it drops the restance on each speaker to 2.. then if you plan to just use 1 amp.. then you have to get an amp which is 1 ohm stable... it most likely will cost you a pretty penny. but if you are looking for 2 amps.. then all you need is an amp that is 2 ohm stable and can push 375-400 watts rms..

with your dual 4 ohm voice coil subs, you should wire the coils on each sub in series to create an 8 ohm sub. then wire them together in series to get a 4 ohm mono load. so when you are looking for an amp, look at the rms power @ 4 ohms mono.:)

yes

Orion HCCA 250G4: you might find it for about $600 on the net. rated @ 800 watts rms @ 12volts

Audiobahn 275HCQ: about $300 online. it's rated @600 watts rms @ 12 volts.

Audiobahn A8001D: about $350-$400 online. rated at 800 watts rms @ 12volts.

in your explorer (14-15 volts) they'll put out more power

More Questions

hey,
thanks for all of the responses they have helped me out!
Can you guys take a look at these amps and tell me what you think about them with 2 x 12" 4 ohm comp VR (400rms)?

Also, can someone rephrase how it would work with a
Mono amp to wire my subs? And what I would need to look for in a Mono Amp? I got confused on that? Also, is it possible to use a 4 channel amp?
Thanks
Kendal

a 2 channel or monoblock amp will be more efficient then using a four chanel amp. with the 4 channel amp you will have to have it bridged @ 8 ohms mono. on a 2 channel amp, it can be bridged @ 4 ohms mono.
