I am assuming no one knows the answer to this question, but I will give it a try. The Ford Explorer Limited comes with a Mach system that is similar to the Mach460 system in Mustangs. The problem is that when you turn up the volume, the bass decreases. It doesn't matter if you change amps or subs or whatever because it is a function in the deck. Anyone know how to bypass it?

Well, a year and a half late.... but I think I know.

The CD6 in the 2001 mustang has a Subwoofer Clip detect- if the ford subwoofer amps start clipping they send a signal to the headunit to reduce volume.

If you disconnect the clip detect return signal it should prevent the HU from acting on it.

No idea what it will sound like with the bass getting clipped.

There is an 8 pin connector on the back of the HU... one side of this, four wires, is the SW+, SW-, SWground, SWclipdetect. The clip detect should be pin 4 or 8- 4 is top left when looking at the back- pin 8 is upper right (This based on the mustang head unit i'm looking at..)

a new aftermarket headunit will solve oyur problem

As does an entire new audio system, from Head unit to amps to speakers and enclosures...
