T/case is there a difference

I have a 1997 xlt( 5 speed manual transmission.)T/case has done a number on me need to replace it.Have found a 1999 T/case that has come off a automatic transmission will this bolt onto a manual transmission or are they different.Im sure i have read i need to change half case with speedo hole off 97 t/case onto 99 t/case to make speedo work.

Yes other than the speedo its the same

Thanks for the response delexploder. Should i be able turn hi lo selector on t/case with my fingers i thought it would be hard like spring loaded or some thing. Ive split case i can see spring set up on bottom of selector barrel ramp but cant see how it or if it supposed to load up tension.
