This morning when I started my truck and drove off, the tach was not working. It went up to about 200 rpm's, but would not go any higher. I drove about 5 or 6 blocks and it just started working again. I have cold started it a few times since and it has not done it again.

What would possibly cause the one-time(hopefully) failure of the tach? I would imagine it will happen again.

Any info appreciated. Thanks.

out of curosity what are the high temps up there

What are the high temps? Well in the winter, yes, we do get pretty cold, down to -40, but probably the average winter day gets up to -15-20(C). In the summer, it does get quite hot. We are on the celcuis scale, but we have lots of days above 30 degrees C, close to 100F, I think. No, we do not live in Igloos and knaw on raw moose meat all year. All in all, we have it pretty good here, no hurricanes, no earthquakes, no volcanoes, no floods, only the odd blizzard in the winter and the odd tornado in the summer. We love the variety in our seasons and find the changes to be a nice break...just as we start to get sick of winter, the hot summer comes and soon you are looking forward to a change again. The idea of living with the same weather all year seems unbearable to me. Although, someone from the south US would think we are crazy in the winter. And, at times, I think we are.

Hope this answers your question.

bump...it happened again today. Started working again after about a mile.

Any ideas? Just a loose wire somewhere?

I have a similar problem. When I start mine it jumps up to about 3000 rpms, and that is when it has just been started. It has been hapening for about a month now and I found out one time when I hit a big bump that it fixed itself! Now when I drive, if I hit right above the tachometer on the dash it fixes itself (most of the time) I dont know why it does this though...anybody have any thoughts?
