hey guys, just had a question on my tail lights and my tricler lights. my explorer dont have a tow package so i got the 65 dollar wiring kit that plugs into the tail lights. its been working ok, but the other day i found that my left trailer tail light isnt working right, the running light works (didnt check if brake part came on) but the turn signal dont work. its not the bulb. the wiring kit for my truck has that tail light converter box and i taced the problem to being that. the wire that comes from the left turn signal on my truck has power up to the box, but not power after the box. i just bought the wiring kit a couple months ago, it replaced the kit that the last owner had on it. i know these are prone to failure but i was wondering if i could rig something to work. no on my trailer i have all the regual lights, but i put a amber light on each fender to act as an auxilary turn signal. i ran a wire from each turn signal on my truck so its seperate from that box. could i run a wire from that light on the fender to my rear tail light to act as the trun signal? that aux. turn signal only has power when the turn signal is on. couldnt i just run a wire from that light to my tail light? i belive the tail lights have 2 wires one running and one stop light.....thanks

anyone think this is or know that this is possible, or am i just thinking out of my ass...like always lol

The trailer lights are a mystrey to me. The boxes that the kits use dont seem to last very long even without any lights added to them.
I dont know why direct wiring (+ & - wires) from ea. light would'nt work but I guess you just gotta try it...

Ok first find the wire for the trailer turn signal at the light itself. Then note the color of the wire. Where the wires run a long side of the frame rail you can tie into the wires there to make your conection. Repete on the other side, and yes make sure you have a good ground very important!

well it worked i just got done. spliced a wire from the aux. turn signal on the fender to the tail light and work great. but i did F the tail light converter up when i was cutting a wire u bumped the pliers on metal and now my running lights are on all the time lol. o well i can deal with it, the last one did it too. so now the trailer works fine on my truck.... so i back my mom 95 X (has towpackage) and i plug it in and all lights work, but, when i turn 4-ways on the trucks signals come on and stay on they do not blink, same for turn signals, lol and when i flip the turn signal up and down the right trailer tail light does the same damn thing the left one did LOL.....what a day. anyone know y it would do that? unplug trailer and the trucks signals work fine. well i put it back on my truck and all the trailer lights work fine. any thoughts. i guess ill just re wire the entire trailer the right way next spring, and reaplce my tail light converter then too
