I'm getting ready to start a project on my 1993 Explorer XLT 4x2. Its a little bit of a MONSTER GARAGE idea, I'm going to turn it into a tailgating vehicle for football season. Some of my ideas so far are a complete beer system, a pop system like you see in a bar with the syrup gun and all. I havent decided on the television setup yet, but there will be a satellite dish on the roof.

Just wondering if anyone else had any ideas on what I should include.

Thanks

bbq grill ?? Justa thought. GOOD LUCK! I'd like to see some pics, when your finished.

BBQ Grill

I was thinking of having like a drawer style BBQ grill coming of of one of the passenger doors, much like Jesse James did on his Escalade.

ya gunan put it up on some rims to?? this should be sweet when its done!!! whens your projeced finish date? just by next football season?

Rims on the ride

I'm definitely going to try to find some good looking rims for it, the hardest part is going to be doing all of the frame work, and rewiring that I have to do.....I'm going to do a little start to finish picture work on it....

Any ideas for a sound system? I would suggest a slide out drum barrel style barbq. ya know cut huge drums in half have it slide in and out of the Ex. Now that would allow for some serious tailgate action. Maybe even add a few hotplate tip outs for warming beans and stuff.

You may want to come up with some sort of canopy system, with the lift gate up some sort of covering to shaed you in the late summer early spring. But then to have side flaps that come down to keep it cozey in the winter.

Canopy System

I'm going to try to find a way to use the lift gate, or the area around it to create a canopy type area. It's either that, or add a rack to the roof to store the two canopies that we use right now.

All I can say is...48" plasma screen when the liftgate open. Man...I love that Escalade!!!!

Gives a whole new meaning to having an open container. :D

what is your price range for this project? You dont want to bite off more then you can chew =P

Personally, I wouldn't get rims... functionality over looks when it comes to a tailgating car =P Also, you dont want to completely make the ex useless during other times of the year (football season is ONLY so long...). I wouldn't want to be grilling right next to my ride anyways... there would probably be smoke damage. If I were you, I'd have a slide out table in the rear w/ a TV in the middle, beer taps on one side, and soda on the other, with the taps facing away from each other on the sides of the Tv.

Anyways, I look forward to seeing some action pics =P Keep us updated.

This would be a fun second vehicle project.

On the topic of foot ball

GO RAVENS

Well, this Explorer is going to be a project car, where all of the additions are completely removable. Like it was said above, football season is only so long. But who knows, I may get crazy and start tailgating for Highschool tennis or something like that......

Some spare parts

Just for starters, I have a few parts that I want to get going with and I wanted to see if anyone had any ideas. I have 2 - 10 inch Jensen woofers, and 2 Bose 151 (weather proof speakers) for the Tailgate vehicle. I also have a Kenwood amp for all this too. Anyone got any ideas for mounting or location inside a 93 explorer 4 door??

Anybody have a link so I can see some of these jesse james creations...i have missed a boat load of shows and would like to catch up....

GO PATRIOTS

with that said, I would have a sound system that you can really hear clearly from the outside/rear of the truck. A loud sound system won't do much good if the speakers for the mids and highs are up in the front of the truck. You may want to consider making some sort of "dashboard" in the back of the truck, and mounting a second head unit within arms reach of an open tailgate.

I'd get a 12vdc refrigerator from a Marine store such as www.westmarine.com - so much better than a cooler. I'd also install an inverter, and several Optima yellow tops with a large alternator to power it all.

As for the grill, even if it isn't attached to the truck, have a set spot for it to be tucked away or strapped down. And the bigger the grill, the better!!

A canopy is a plus - just make sure it's retractable for those great days out there.

And spend the $$ on the things that count first. Food and Audio before TV, TV before rims. Keep us posted and TAKE LOTS OF PICS!!!
