Is there a way to take apart the hinge assembly on the lever diving board type center armrests? I haven't been able to figure out how.

what exactly were you having trouble with? I have a '96 X and gutted the whole console/armrest. It's been awhile since I've done it, but you start by removing some screws hidden behind a false plate towards the rear of the console. I believe there are two more screws towards the front of the console as well. Before you know it, you'll see all of the screws to remove the parts you don't want in there.

hope this helps...

Yeah I know how to get it off of the center console. After you take it off you still have the armrest attached to the hinge. I'm trying to figure out how to get that apart if it's possible.

Isn't there a cover on each side of the arm rest hinge in the center console that will expose a few 5/16 bolts??

Yeah, that's not what I'm talking about though. After you take those out and pull the armrest off of the center console and are holding the armrest in your hand that piece you just unbolted is part of a hinge that is still connected to the armrest.

I had to replace my armrest. I used a air cutter and cut the center hinge pin to get the old one off. I am not sure if there is any other way.
