I'm taking off my FMS headers to have them coated. My underhood temps feel a lot higher than when I had the V6. Anybody know just how big of an improvement coating the headers will give?

How long does this take? Would it be worth it to put the stock ones back on for untill they are done? Just for fun?

Damn you. When I saw the title of this thread, my heart skipped a beat at the thought of some used FMS headers...

haha me too, lol damn

I don't see how getting the headers ceramic coated could hurt. While most people have noticed a slight loss of low end torque with the FMS headers, I still noticed it, but the underhood temps are a lot lower now. I also noticed with my Apten 87 performance program turned on that I don't seem to notice a loss anymore. It's worth getting them coated for the engine temps and the good looks. I'm sure that ceramic coating helps the exhaust to flow faster since the headers themselves aren't absorbing and deflecting so much heat in the engine compartment.

I haven't had a chance to take them off yet. I still plan on coating them as soon as I find a good shop.

Jet coated inside and out will decrease the temps DRAMATICALLY.

According to JET COAT the difference it like 400 degrees

I can't say if it helps or not, I have JBA silver ceramic headers on my Ranger but they were melting a couple of my spark plug wires because they were touching the headers so make sure they are secured away from them. I put heat resistant spark plug boots on my wires just for piece of mind.

My headers are not coated and they have melted:

02 sensor wires
Trans cooler lines
speedo cable
starter wires

Amongst other things, I did lots of heat shielding around the headers. I would love to have them coated, because the temps are MUCH hotter with headers.....

Good to know, I'll keep that in mine when I do the install. Thanks!

Well I got the headers off last night. Everything went easy. With a 3" body lift I could get to all the header bolts through the gap. Took around an hour to get them off.

Most of the bolts were loose. I was able to get them off with 1/4 drive ratchet. I used the bolts that came with the fms headers. Only had about 4000 miles on them.

I'm going to put the factory exhaust back on till I can get these coated.

Also went and bought some scrap al to make some heat shields.

I sent my headers to Jet-Hot last week and I'm just waiting to get them back. I didn't have much trouble getting the stockers off, being it was my first time. It just takes awhile to get all the stuff out of the way. :)
