Back Hatch Adjustment.
I recently purchased a very nice 1992 Explorer Sport with only 76,000 miles. Its only problem is the back hatch is too high on the right side, and exhaust is leaking into the car. There is a very small dent in the door, just to the left of center, but I doubt it is related.
I've looked it over thoroughly and think the only thing that adjusts is the hinge. I loostened the two exposed cap screws as far as I dared without them coming out, and could not budge the door by myself. So I retightened them and decided I'd better get some knowledge before transforming a minor problem into a major one.
Any Advice?

I've given up on trying to align mine :(

I would be interested to hear what others have done.

From my experience as a body tech, the only available adjustments are on the striker to get it to close properly at the lower part of the hatch, if that's the case, or any of those bolts on the hinges. Always give the hatch a good push while having someone bolt it up. A lot of these adjustments are a two person job.

THX. I had a good body shop look at it. The think someone accidentally closed something in the hatch/door, and the hinge is bent. Repairs will be appx $125. to replace, and adjust, so goes in next week.
