Well, after much thought and consideration, it looks like I'll be forgoing the water injection kit for nitrous. It looks like I'll be moving to Galveston next year, and with the humidity there, water injection is not feasable. So....I'm really thinking about nitrous.

So, of all the kits out there, which ones are the best? I'm currently looking at kits from ZEX, Nitrous Express, and NOS. I want to inject right before the throttle body, and would want a 35 - 55 jet probably. Safety is important, so I want a blowoff valve and also a remote opener for convenience. Internet Racers supply recommends Nitrous Express 20920. But what are the benefits of a computerized system like ZEX? Also, is my fuel system good enough? I have a 110 lph fuel pump and adjustable FPR from the blower, and the blower computer compensates for various conditions.

BLK MK8, this is your area, please help!

Also, I want a kit that I can install myself and it looks like the NX system is a PITA.

Thanks so much!

well i prefer the nos system for nitrous but the NX system will do fine. unless you have big injectors and fuel pump with out a FMU you will have to run a wet system. for the mustangs we do with blowers we use a nos wet kit with a high pressure to low pressure regulator for the fuel side. you have to make shure that you put a pressure gauge on and see what the pressure is on the regurlator when you spray the fuel in to a bucket or something when installing and making shure things work right just close the bottle to check. if you jet every thing fine then you will feel a big improvement. dont use the zex setup with your truck with the blower because i dont think i will work well. you can use the NX bottle opener with a nos kit you just have to use a NX bottle or you can use the Nos bottle opener. by the way the remote openers leek a little so close them at night and when you are at work. start small and then see how big your gains are because breaking your truck stinks. if you have any thing else you need just drop me a line.

Anyone else have any input?

Why don't you think the ZEX setup is as good? The pluses are that it's cheaper and easier to install, and Vanir backs it, so it has to be somewhat good.

did you mention the venom nitrous kit

Well, the Venom kit is $1300.....A bit pricey.

well i try and stick with what works well and has never let me down. i have seen how the zex works and i dont like it that much. some people hype one setup over the other because they are able to sell more of them but i dont care about hype just about what works. call zex and ask them what they think about running there system with the blower first to make shure it is completly compatable. if all else fails you know what works.

well, i dont know much about nitrous, but a friend of mine has the NOS kit on his 93 probe gt, and he loves it - personally, i dont really know the difference...all i know is that youre gonna have a blower and nitrous on an explorer, which is one of the most amazing things conceivable :)

Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, I've weighed my options and called many manufacturers and speed shops. It looks like I'm gonna go with the ZEX kit. They have a lot of experience on Rangers and Explorers, and fully back their system. Pluses: much easier to install, and a bit cheaper. They gave me exact instructions over the phone on the install, and guaranteed it would work with the supercharger, they actually say it'll work very well due to the tunable blower computer.

They suggested getting spark plugs that are a few degrees cooler, whadya think about that advice?

Oh, and he said my 1/4 mile will probably go to the low 14s.

:bounce:  :bounce:

as long as you called around and did all the right stuff then you will be ok. a colder plug is a good idea but i dont know if they make one for your truck. blowers love cold air so there is no resone you cant break a 14.

The slightly cooler spark plugs would be a great idea for sure. A friend of mine has a 98 Tahoe with a similar set-up (blower and nitrous) and the addition of cooler spark plugs sliced an additional .3 off his 1/4 mile time (damn nice gain for some spark plugs). However, I haven't heard of those plugs being offered for Explorers, at least not yet. I'm sure somebody out ther makes them though, so good luck hunting (actually, you might give Explorer Express a call, they always manage to have more than they say, or at least they would know where to get them).

Taking the Plunge

When I saw the topic, I thought you were lowering it, I guess not. Later

Troll does not spray his truck because he is already making to much power but we spray a lot of supercharged cars down here because of the heat. instead of uping the boost we add nos it it works better that way.
