what

Seriously I cannot understand your post. Guessing you have a problem with the tach dropping out, and sometimes the CEL comes on?

The tach has three inputs; ground, 12v, and SIG from the EDIS. If the tach is acting up I would suggest checking for a good connection all the way from the EDIS module to the tach itself. Sometimes the tach itself has solder joints that go bad as well, and they may appear fine until you look at them closely and see hairline cracks, meaning you'll need to reflow the solder.

If the Check Engine Light is coming on when the tach drops out, the EDIS system may be losing a signal it needs from the crank or cam position sensor (if equipped).

i hate the breaks too

Sorry I'll clear it up a bit, that will teach me to try and send the message form my iphone with the glass broke on it. Yes the CEL comes on but it very dim and if i hit the breaks its goes out, but the CEL isn't always on. When you first turn the key to star the truck the CEL light up for a few second like always and it bright as it should be. The Tach does drop but not all the time yesterday it would stop working then work but read really low. Today it worked fine till i was a mile form then house then started reading low again. Ill take a look at the EDIS module to the tach tomorrow if i can get around to it. Thanks for your help I have took a few short videos of this but haven't had the time to upload them. Sorry for the bad post to start with hope this clears it up.

P.S can't help but laugh at myself for doing that got to love the IPhones

sounds like a bad ground.

sounds like a bad ground.

My first thought too. There's a ground for the PCM right next to where it's mounted under the passenger side kick panel. Maybe there's some corrosion there. That probably won't affect the tachometer, but may affect the CEL light.

Yesterday driving home from work, I heard on the radio that the new "in" thing is to have a cracked glass on a smart phone - like it's a badge of honor or something. Especially if you color the crack with a sharpie, nail polish, or something. Some people are actually cracking their glass on purpose. Sounds like a marketing scam to me to sell more phones. That said...at my house there are two phones with cracked glass from being dropped!

What bothers me is that this all started after changing a tail-light. I guess this sounds nuts, but it is cheap and easy, and I have to suggest it because it is where the trouble began. Get another bulb from some other place. If nothing else you end up with a good spare part you will surely use. Change it out, and really check out the socket and wiring.

I mean, it's a 10 minute deal, and since it started there, I would start there.

update havn't had time to work on it but am going to change the bulb out but am leading to believe it something more then a bad ground or bulb i could be wrong am leading more toward the crankshaft senor i was on my way home to day when the tach started actting up again and stop working i was on a back road costing down a hill and thought what the hell so i'll turn the x off and when to start it but i wouldn't fire back up so i then but it in gear and let the clutch out still the motor wouldn't start then the tach jump up a bit but the motor still was running so i hit the clutch and turn the key over to start and it fired right up then the cel came on and it feel like it down on power and the tech is just half way working so this lead me to believe the crankshaft senor is going bad. So i am going to change it want take to look just waiting for it to cool down a bit i could swear i have one laying around some where form my old x i just can't find it.

Sorry for the double post but i got the video made at last the first part of it show the tach not working then if i hit the power windows the tach moves WTF?. The next part so the truck with the tach diong a small jump and the last part show it reading off.

I also did change the bulb out no changes

Well, according to a wiring diagram, there are two connectors on the back of the instrument cluster. Connector A pin 1, and connector B pin 6 feed into the cluster for your Left and Right turn signal light. A8 directly connects the tach from the ICM. The point of all this - is all that stuff is related. But getting back to your original post. I think I can read that this all started with a tail light. Did you just replace the bulb, the socket, or the whole assembly?

There's a factory wire harness connector that you should be able to access by removing the left rear light assembly. (If not, look from underneath up near the left hand bumper bolts). When disconnected, it should take out all the rear lights. With it disconnected see if you still have problems. If the cluster problems go away, your problem is in the rear wire bundle, and it's robbing the feed voltage to the instrument cluster.

(I just used my library card to access the online County Library auto repair section to get the wire diagram).

Thanks for every one input so far on this you yall have been a great deal of help. I just replaced the bulb when this started, when i got in to day the tach was once again actting up so I pulled the main plug to the tail light and there was no change I would also like to add that the rest of the gauges are working fine. So this lead me to believe its the tach its self or the crankshaft sensor but i thought if the crankshaft sensor was going bad it would stop the motor form running at all. I'm going to try and make a run to pull a part this weekend and see about getting a different tach and a crankshaft sensor. Just my thought's on it

Hmmm, somewhere there is a test port for the tach. It's supposed to have a tan/yellow wire going to it. I don't know if it's in the EEC test plug or not. Someone else may have to chime in here....(My kid has the Ex right now so I can't go look). If you have access to an aftermarket tach, you could plug it in to see if there's a stable reading at that point.

Yea I will try that and see what happen i've got a after market tach so that should be easy, It started doing it friday again and the cel came on and the it was down on power so I stop at the auto part store where I was at and was ready to buy a new cam shaft senor at this point but they didn't have any in stock so I picked up some break cleaner and laid it to the cam shaft senor two different time. It seem to clear the issue up, Ill know more this weekend when am driving it.
