Techieman33 vs. Turdle round 2

Eric, I had read that you were about to make it 2WD. How do you like it?

I like it a lot, it corners a lot better, no more under steer. It's a hair faster but I won't get all of the power until I can get a 2wd transmission in there and ditch the transfer case. I do have to drive a little more carefully in the rain off the line. But I think it's easier to control any sliding that happens after that now that I'm 2wd instead of awd. I feel like I'm more in control now, and not wondering as much what the mountaineer is going to do when it looses traction, and when it's going to come back. The real test will come this winter when we get some snow though, I think at least a pair on snow tires will be in order.

Guys this was cool. I was really impressed at how fast you both got on the dirt.

Thank goodness there was not a dip in the water at the end huh :)

honestly I was thinking for a split second of just jumping through it. I was still going 40ish mph at that point and I think my momentum would have carried me though just fine. Then I remembered I didn't have tow hooks and didn't want chance the mountaineer getting torn up if we did end up having to tow it out.

Funny Eric, I've got AWD in my V8 truck and the A4WD in my work truck. If things go well, I should have that reversed. I'm about to have the A4WD in my V8 truck, and later swap the 302 and AWD into my work truck.

The AWD is much better for street use and mild tires in the gravel use. The A4WD isn't as predictable with partial traction, and my two trucks have different needs. I need the strength of the BW4406 to handle a bunch of power. I think the AWD wouldn't like 500lbs.ft. regularly, it's a mom and dad feature.

I couldn't stand the a4wd, I test drove a v6 with that before I bought the mountaineer and didn't even drive it a mile before I was done and knew that there was no way I was going to be able to put up with that crap. My mountaineer doesn't really get driven like a truck, more like a rally car. Jon and Gregg will both back me up on that.

You need the big sway bar then. I could tell even without tightening the bolts fully that it handles a little flatter.

That picture is of the stock front bar, and the 1.5" Addco bar. I just had new frame brackets made, those provided do not allow the bolts to seat properly. Addco makes good bars, but the hardware they include is poor in quality.

ah, is that for an explorer specifically or something else?

Yes, it's for the 98-01, no one has yet reported back if the 98-01 will mount in the 95-97's.

Whew, I feel the pain. Things are rough, and the government is making them much worse. Save all that you can, for prices and taxes are going to go way up.

Yeah, it doesn't look like my mountaineer will be seeing any new parts for a while, hopefully I can find something soon.

I'll have to look into one of those, if I can find a job that is. I just lost mine this morning.

Well crap Eric!!! I am sorry to hear that. I know how you feel(I already told you how I got fired) You better file for unemployment ASAP if you haven't already. I just got a job painting houses the other day. Doesn't pay as good as my last job, but it is what it is. We should open a speed shop for Explorers/Mountaineers? Good luck on your search and if possible, enjoy the down time if you can.
