I have been told that there is a TSB (97-21-15 or 97314) that deals with a shudder in the front end while making turns at low speeds. How can I find out if this TSB is applicable for my year and engine type? I hear that the GEM needs to be reset to cure the shuddering problem. Can anyone help me find out if my explorer is affected by this TSB? ('97 V8 5.0 AWD)

Thanks-Brian

I dont know about the TSB but I have had the same problem with my 98 V8 AWD. It was the front drive shaft going bad. Its the coupler at the rear of the shaft that goes into the transfer case that goes bad. Replaced and no problems. The only other thing it might be is the lack of friction modifier in your rear diff.

Others might have better ideas.

I had that shudder too.
A turkey baster flushing with Valvoline synth blend and it is gone.

The TSB for the shudder applies to the Control Trac 4x4 system (4.0 engines), not the AWD systems (5.0 engine).
