Tekonsha 118272 7-Way Tow Harness

I just installed this 7-way tow harness to my 2015 Ford Explorer XLT following the instructions carefully.
When I started my vehicle and plugged the 7-way tester in the only lights that came on were the 12v and TM light.
Turning signals work on the vehicle but not on the wiring harness I just installed.
This is the second type of harness I have tried in the last week and got same results.
Please any help would be greatly appreciated.
We are to pick up a camper this weekend and if I cannot get the 7-way working I have to cancel the pick up.

Does your Explorer have the factory towing package?

If it does then you needed one of these:

No it does not have the factory tow package. I had to put everything on for towing.

No it does not have the factory tow package. I had to put everything on for towing. But there was a place to plug in that harness that you posted about so as to hook up my brake controler.

I am not sure what the problem could be accept possibly a missing fuse if you didnt get the tow package.

The camper you are picking up is under 2,000lbs?

No the camper gvw is 4500 lbs.
What fuse would it be?

Your Explorer is only rated to tow 2,000lbs as an fyi.

Welcome to the Forum Emmett.
If you check your Manual you will see that there are fuses listed for towing. As blwnsmoke stated, the Explorer with an aftermarket hitch is rated to only tow up to 2000 lbs. With the factory installed tow package it is 5000 lbs because it is equipped with the necessary features such as oil cooler, air duct to help cooling of the PTU, a tow/haul button, thicker radiator and different transmission.

Dont know what "searched the VIn" means but all Explorers (except police versions) are 2k without tow package, 5k with tow package. Tow package includes different cooling (ptu/trans), different transmission and at one point different radiator (not sure if that changed). Also has the tow/haul button to change shift points when pulling a load.

You cant just add a hitch to get the 5k.

I contacted the Ford dealer near me and the said that if an after market transmission cooler and hitch is installed they said it can tow up to 5000lbs.

There are several threads on adding an aftermarket tow package. As blwnsmoke said, I believe your dealer is wrong. This has been discussed many times. Here is the main one I found with the Forum's 'Search' feature. Did NOT get Factory Tow Package, Now What?
