My 97 Moutaineer with the 5.0 liter was having issues with the engine idling up at stop lights. In addition the truck was throwing a code saying the ECU temp sensor was malfunctioning. Had my Ford technician look into it. When he drove it around, the sensor would read the proper voltage that corresponds to the proper operating temp while at normal driving speeds. Then at stop lights, it would jump between normal and bottom scale which tells the ECU that it needs to warm up the engine. He would have been inclined to just replace the sensor which was replaced two years ago, but it doesn't just fail out completely at 0V or 5V. He peeled back the harness but didn't find any breaks or rub through. My radiator failed out a couple months ago, and I had thrown some Barrs Stop Leak in there to keep it patched until it could get replaced. He is now speculating that some of that crud is locked up in the system and is causing air pockets to form around the sensor when the water pressure is low on idle. Anybody else run into issues with this sensor or have any thoughts?

Thanks.
