Temp Sensor???

I installed a OHC on my 2001 Ranger and am having a problem with my temperature not reading correctly. The console came out of a 2001 Explorer. I talked to him and he told me the temp was reading correctly before he tore it out. I did not hook up my VSS wire but from what i've heard its not needed anyways. Is there a way to calibrate my temperature?? Or do you guys know what might be going on???

The temperature circuitry does take into account the vehicle speed as well as a whole host of other parameters to display the correct temperature. Someone here tried doing a similar thing. They took the console out of an Explorer and tried putting it either in to an earlier Explorer or a Ranger, I forget which. Do a search and you should find the thread. I don't believe they ever got it working properly. Or at least I don't remember seeing a resolution. It's been a while though.
