I cant seem to find the location of the temperature sensor, but supposedly they changed it in 97 or so, so i need to swap my dads in mine, anyone got a clue as to where it might be? thanks

Here is a Pic of where the cooland temp sending unit is.. Dead Link Removed

It is in the top/center of the motor.. above the timing cover..

Arg..frustration, hopefully someone can help :p

My sending unit on my 96
My dads on his 98
And one with 2 prongs off of a 2001

I am thinking i need to stick with the sending unit from 97 or 98 because supposedly those are different

I need help in general though, after putting in my guages the engine temp goes from cold all the way up to hot, all collants are there, and it NEVER overheated before, so im stumped...any help, thanx

I don't have the book on the newer X's yet, but it sounds like Ford might have changed the voltage level that the gauges expect to see. You might have to make sure you use the same model year sensor as the gauge pack you installed, which means you might have to do a little bit of adapter work to get it to thread into the water jacket, and you might have to splice wiring if the connectors are different. You should be able to find a thread adapter at your local hardware store.

Draper, the most help ive received.anyways i think the adaptor is the same, and i plan to do the swap tonight to let ya know, i bought an 01 one. But im now thinking i need a 98-99 one for some reason. oh well it was 13$
