I searched on the board for the solution to my problem but I did not find anything. So after a few trips to the part store and explaining to them what I need (they did not know) the repairs were made.

My explorer temperature was running cold, almost on the C. The t-stat had been replaced not long ago. So I figured it was the sensor that sent the temp info to the dash. So I bought a coolant temperature sensor and replaced it. This is located just right of the coil pack. The temp gauge did not move at all after warmed up. Replaced the t-stat. It was fail safe and stuck open. No change. Looked up the sensor again and found that there are two sensors one for the gauge and one for the engine management system. The one I replaced was the wrong sensor. I should have bought the temperature switch. The coolant temp sensor goes under the coil pack. Got the other sensor switched them out and good to go. Although it is not bad to have all three components replaced.
