Dirty oil is dirty oil.
maybe i am wrong but oil that has been in an engine for say 12 months opposed to 2 months between oil changes just seems that is would be not as clean or fresh or how ever you would want to put it.
what is UOA???

I don't really understand that every 3 months thing. I've only put 1200 miles on since the last oil change, the sticker says it should have been changed last week. I think Al said it earlier; gravity is the best filter. If my X sits for 2 weeks, then the dirt won't really be a problem.

However, if you do have enough dirt to worry about, then you've got a poor air filter, poor oil filter, and maybe some leaks in which dirt can get in other than the filters.

Some of us actually do a UOA (not sure what Al's U is for but the other two are OIL ANALYSIS). We have quantifiable proof of the status of our oil and insight into the health of our engines. (right AL? )
