My 02 4.0L currently has roughly 125k miles and has begun to leak oil from one of the valve covers fairly good. Since replacing the valve cover gaskets involves removing the intake manifold and etc. I was wondering if it was worth while to replace both of the cam tensioners when everything was apart.
The truck clearly has chain rattle at start, especially in cold weather and has the classic rattle under load from 2300rpm-2600rpm. Will replacing the tensioners have a positive effect on the motor at this point in the game.
I would probably just go with new MotorCraft ones, I believe they are $60 and $90, a piece.
I know I will at least be able to get a good look at the cams and cassettes/chains condition when I have the valve covers off.
