We have all been following the weather real close also! The showers were supposed to have been moved back to Sunday afternoon which would be okay. We are all still keeping the ole fingers crossed.

Damn I had this good response and the computer crashed!

There is an average of 30% chance of rain Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Like I said there was a stock Nissan that made it back to Eagle Rock last time we were there. I can't remember the water crossings or didn't notice because the truck I rode in was really big. Anyway I'm not going to say it's ok you drive 500 miles and it's not but I think Michael, Gerald, Rod, and Brian shouldn't have a problem. Kris not sure as with me since we're almost stock. I'm sure we can find a way somehow. Not going to give the approval though, would hate you guys to get here and can't wheel then I get lynched or a Gerald lecture or something.

Positive thinking my friends. Everyone will be able to make it. We can scout around for the easiest ways through if need be. We will get to Eagle rock and have a ball from there. Slabs Slabs Slabs.

"Gerald Lecture"

Hmmph. I'm now the Grumpy Old Man! :D Nope, no lectures, when we make our own decisions we live by them, right?

Or swim by them :D

Can you say CAMEL TROPHY??!!
Not only is this run include trailriding and rockcrawling, it will also test your skills as a driver and a spotter. I think a part of this run is going to be how we are going to get the whole group from one side of the water crossings to another, quickly and safely. Ok well maybe not just like the Camel Trophy, but similiar. ;) Cant wait!

Oh yaa I also took Friday off, so if anyone is planning to come in early give me a call (512)699-6493. Gerald you could always crash at my house on the couch, or setup your tent in the yard, Friday night. :)

Rod, I am off Friaday but waiting on a couple others that didnt get off. If plans go right we should be out of here no later than 4:30 in the afternoon. I am going to meet up w/ Jesse somehwere on the other side (south) of downtown dallas but have no clue. Gerald if you know the highways real well around here do you think I can get your fax number and sent you Jesse and my map so You can see where we can meet. We are still working on what we are going to do about this hotel thing. Camel Trophy here we come. It will be fun.

Ok I'm home and preparing to do my front hooks with my GM hooks before I go to work but what are you guys running for rear hooks??

Do you have a hidden hitch installed?

I am running the hooks just like Gerald has only on both sides of the truck.

I mounted one just like Geralds. I have to work Friday morning so I might be getting in late to Austin. I am Going to install my Shock mount Skid plates today after work (got here just in time for the run). At least I have a bit more ground clearance this time.

No I don't have a hidden hitch and also I'm running into problems with the front ones now. I have GM which I can switch to something else if this doesn't work and I took off the cover below the bumper, plastic grill. Well the frame slants upwards and the hooks won't clear the bumper. I would think I would run into the same problem with other hooks. No?

Brian do you have a picture of your install

Kris, Get Rods cell phone number so you can get ahold of us Friday. I will not be getting there till late (9-10) so dont worry about it. I cant wait to see your shock skid plates. I may end up having to get me some of those.

Keith, I not sure how much different the bumper is on the 95+ Explorers I did not have to mod any thing to get my GM hooks on. I had to put the right one on the left and the left one on the right. Bolted right to the Frame. with one bolt and welded them to the frame.

Ok I took off some more plastic covers and finally got it fit so it will work, not perfect but it will work.

Kris did you use an all threaded bolt and just bolted it into the frame or did you use a partially threaded one with a nut on the top of the frame.

Keith what year is your Explorer? If you have a '95+ you can forego front towhooks: if you have a 20' strap you can loop it through your crossmember for a tow. 30' strap is too thick to pass through though.

Wait a minute, now we can forgo front towhooks! :)

That's funny, someone said Gerald lecture.... whats that? ;)

jeff

Nope, like I said no more lecture. I'm afraid you youngun's 'll come over and poison my pecan tree for being the neighborhood old fart. I only brought up that point about being prepared because I want everyone to have a good time and spend their time running the trail, but being negative ruins a good time too. :)

Actually, I suppose the proper English should be "frame-mounted towPOINT" instead of "hook". Hooks just happen to be the most common way of doing it.

Gerald have you decided yet? Everyone is wanting to see the 99 run the course again! Just checking in.

I'm just confirming that I'll see y'all at 830 on Saturday. Splat's blown and ready to run! I figure I'll come by and we'll shmooze and take some pics, then head our separate ways. Looking forward to it!
